Light at the End of the Tunnel

It was 6:00am on Friday, August 12th , 2016 when my alarm went off. Running late, I was preparing to catch the bus and was about to walk out the door. My dad informed me that schools were cancelled due to flash flood warnings within the city of Denham Springs and in that moment, I was filled with joy because I did not have time to pack a lunch that morning. ¬†Little did I know, that would be the last day I would spend in that house and many families would lose their homes as well. On September 10th, about a month after the flood, I wrote a letter to my future self, so that I could remember how I felt in the midst of it all. From time to time, I take it out to remember the hope that remained in me through that tough time. ¬†It reads, “The flood of Livingston Parish and Baton Rouge started on Friday, August 12th, 2016. To many people, it was a disaster. They lost their home, cars, businesses, and jobs. Hey everyone! Welcome to my blog. My name is Kayleigh, but I prefer to be called KT. It is impossible for me to try to write a blog post that allows you to fully know me and my experiences, but here is a little bit about me that may help you get to know me a bit and serve as an introduction to this amazing blog. First up, my interests and hobbies. Ever since I was young, I enjoyed adventure and trying new things. About two years ago, my dad and I made our way over to Colorado, and that is where I fell in love with snow skiing. That summer, we also decided to get certified as scuba divers. I love to ski and dive, but since I do not live in the mountains nor on the islands it is hard to do these things often. I do, however, take pleasure in fishing and spending time with family and friends. Speaking of my family, they have taught me many morals and lessons to guide me.
